Whooping Cough The California Department of Public Health has declared an epidemic of Pertussis (whooping cough) in the state. This year five babies have died from this disease - all of them from Latino families. All told, 910 cases have been confirmed, with several hundred more under investigation. This outbreak could be the largest in the state in 50 years.

Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is preventable through vaccination. Children should be vaccinated against the disease and parents, family members and caregivers of infants need a booster shot.
Here is the Riverside County DOPH, Disease Control Website dedicated to Pertussis. It will have the most recent updates regarding the epidemic locally. www.rivcoph.org WhoopingCoughFlyer WhoopingCoughFlyer (Español) PertussisFAQs
